KERNEL – Kids Eating Right-Nutrition & Exercise for Life

Due to COVID-19, we are unsure if we will be offering KERNEL for our 2021 season. Please check back for updates.

Sponsored by Food for All, a program of Catholic Charities Eastern Washington, Coordinated Care, and Apple Valley Honda.

KERNEL  provides a fun opportunity for children to engage in the local food system through conversations directly with farmers, educational games and demonstrations, and exposure to new fruits and vegetables. In addition to participating in educational activities, KERNEL Club kids receive a $2 KERNEL Club Buck to spend at the market, allowing them to make their own shopping decisions at the market. KERNEL Club meets every Saturday 9am-12pm from June 15-August 24.

The program’s mission is three-fold: (1) Empower children to make healthy food choices (2) Strengthen and sustain healthy communities through supporting farmers and cultivating future farmers market supporters (3) Expand Farmers Markets from a retail location into a place where children can try new foods and learn about healthy eating.
